Too much fun on a short weekend and as I listen to the auger run on the corn furnace my warm fingers are too tired to come up with anything profound…so how about a few random thoughts shall we?

Great football game this last weekend. I’ve been a die hard Green Bay Packer fan for as long as I can remember, so any win is a good win but I’ll admit I was pretty nervous throughout the entire game. No matter the outcome though, there isn’t much that can compare with a belly full of Little Smokie’s .

I heard a rumor rolling around that WHO TV will be adding a channel to their digital line up. 13.3 will be playing old shows…and could we ask now for Floppy reruns every day? I’m not sure when this will start but it might not hurt to float through your television station search feature a few times.

Here is an interesting fact that I want you to mull over for a bit. Every other soybean produced in the United States is consumed by China. Yeah! That’s what I thought too! 50% is a lot of soybeans.

It has been a while since I was in the State Historical Building, so last weekend I made a trip there, and while I never got to the library, I was really tickled to see new things out and about. The latest exhibit on the second floor is really a group of odd things that have been tucked away in various areas of the museums storage, but absolutely fascinating. I’m sure another trip there to spend a little more time is in order, and I still would like to do that “behind the scenes” tour.

I’ve been reading a book on the building of the Panama Canal. I had not been aware of the fact that the canal really was a triumph of failed attempts over the years. The complete human toll that was expended to build it simply stupefies me.

I’ve appreciated the snow this year. Oh sure, there was the little “Blizzard” thing last week, but come on folks we’ve actually been kind of fortunate if you think about it. If this is as bad as Winter gets then we’ll all do just fine. And I hear that Dr. Phil saw his shadow and I’m not sure what that means, probably more therapy for all of us.

If you hadn’t noticed gas is starting to creep up again. I understand that the unrest in Egypt is the cause. Gas prices are what they are, but I still sit in amazement, much in the way I did watching what happened in Iran a few years ago. To see people who long for freedom and have the will and courage to rise up and demand freedom….man folks, that’s what it’s all about!

It may come as a surprise to you, but I really enjoy classic movies. From Spencer Tracy to Jimmy Stewart I spend hours watching them. When the opportunity came to see the remake of True Grit, I wasn’t sure I wanted to go only because I enjoyed the first one so well, and felt as though I was doing The Duke a little disservice. I went, I sat through it, and I enjoyed every minute! An amazing movie and one that will probably enter into my DVD collection at some point.

Pssst…can you smell the corn dogs? State fair is only six months away!

Ok…I’ll only speak of this briefly but do so as a service to all the men out there reading this who otherwise would forget. I spent a horribly ten minutes the other day standing in front of the card rack at Pamida looking at Valentine’s cards. Yeah, I’m really not up for the mushy gushy cards filled full of empty promises and I love you’s that can be taken as easy as they are given. But, just because I’ve got a little phobia about that isn’t any reason that the rest of you should suffer, so guys, go out and find a card for your sweetheart before it’s Monday afternoon and you’re buying those giant cards at Casey’s that just scream “Crud I forgot it was Valentines day but when I stopped for gas and chew I picked you up a card.” As for anyone getting one from me….there may not be any made up promises, or even an I love you, but know that the words I’ve penned into them come from deep inside my heart.
See you next week…remember, we’re all in this together.
