Holidays during the week always tend to be nightmares for those who actually try to accomplish something, but as I sit here and think about the coming holiday..July 4…Independence Day I was reading through the various news sites gathering the latest news on the war. You remember the war? Little thing in Iraq? Freedom?
For an awful lot of people it seems to be the norm to go from one cause to the next as long as it keeps them in the public eye. First it was patriotic to stand up and wave a flag stating that one was behind military action as 343 of my brothers were laid to rest underneath that flag in the days following September 11th. However, it seems to be all the rage these days to stand upon that same spot waving that same flag and shouting at the top of our lungs in angst against the President and the war. Suddenly it’s become to costly, to long, to time consuming. It no longer keeps our attention the way it once did.
Then today, I read a story about a small farming village in Iraq. A village not unlike the small towns that dot the Midwestern landscape. Where peaceful people exist trying to make a meager living while staying out of the way of the conflict. It is towns like these where Al Qaeda have now begun to take over. Moving in, destroying livestock, buildings, setting mines and explosive devices in what is left and systematically executing the citizens. Men, women, children..shot, beheaded and tortured all in the name of religion.

Perhaps along with celebrating our Independence Day this week, we can also take a moment to pray for peace and for freedom for those who haven’t yet found it.
See you next week….Remember, we’re all in this together.
