A few random thoughts this week.
- The kids and I found a bright yellow moth about as big as my hand last week. It was sunning itself on top of the stem of a long since bloomed Iris. I’d never seen one before and spent a couple hours on the internet searching for pictures of a “big yellow moth”. Found it finally, and it turns out it was an Imperial Moth. Beautiful!
- The family is off to the far northern portion of the state leaving Dad at home to “bach” it for the week. It’s not going well so far as the first night the storms came through and washed out the tent and they packed up and went to a local motel. Ahh..the joys of tent camping. I’m headed up there with the camper to give them some more shelter so hopefully the rest of their vacation turns out better.
- The Stuart library building that I talked about last week is no more. It only took a day and a half for the demolition and the corner sure seems empty when I drive by it now.
- I think if the rain will hold off this week I might try to catch up on some fishing. It seems the older I get the less chance I get to go.
- Did you sit through the memorial for Michael Jackson last week? I wonder if your impressions were the same as mine? Of course, since I’ve got that interest in all things strange and unusual when it comes to funerals, I was more focused on the casket than anything else. And for those of you who are curious, it’s the Batesville Promethean, solid bronze with 14K gold plated. It will set you back $25,000 if you want one. Incidentally this is the same casket that James Brown was buried in. I wonder what Dave Kuhn has from Aurora that is comparable…not that I’ll be casket shopping anytime soon.
- Speaking of funerals…only because it was about the only place I ever get to see them perform. I am still patiently awaiting the Melody Makers World Tour. I suppose now that Diane B. is a local celebrity she’ll want a security detail?
- In case you have been wondering…the State Fair opens in just about 30 days. I can already taste the corn dogs! For those of you who subscribe to the “Weez” method of attending the Fair, note that opening day August 13, if you bring two cans of food to the gate from 5 a.m. to 7 a.m. you can get in free, so leave your feed bucket at home.
- Sweet Corn…..yeah…made your mouth water didn’t I?
- I was told to keep it short this week so I’ll leave you with this parting thought….If you have made mistakes, there is always another chance for you. You may have a fresh start any moment you choose, for this thing we call "failure" is not the falling down, but the staying down.
See you next week. Remember, we’re all in this together.
