Just because we haven’t done so in a while, how about a few random thoughts?
- It was sad to see the old Redfield school building torn down. I’m far from one of those people who saw it as a means of the school board or another town kicking Redfield in the shins. I actually see the reason behind it and can accept it for that face value, however, a good deal of the memories of my youth were wrapped in the walls of that building. I remember as a very little man walking into the building before the library was there, when it still had the swinging doors on it. The wood basketball floor, that once saw the state tournament bound girls basketball team, later would great us each week as we filed in for chorus. Honor Study hall on the third floor tucked away in what must have been a storage room at one time. The ground floor lockers…the old bomb shelter where the teachers “smoking room” was for a time. I’ll miss that old girl, but in my mind I can retrace every square inch of that building.
- I made a huge mistake last week by not including one very important thing in Weez’s Guide to the State Fair. Earlham’s own Melody Makers will be singing at Pioneer Hall, Thursday night August 16th at 5:30 p.m., so get up right now and head that way!!!
- Dexter’s Fall Festival is only two weeks away. Hope to see everyone from the area in town that weekend.
- School starts soon. It’s a good time to remember to slow down in the mornings as the wee ones make their way to school. I know it might be rough on a few of you this year with your little ones riding busses and making their way towards adulthood, but try to maintain a little composure.
- I think we all watched with awe Sunday evening as the storm rolled through the area. What an amazing and wonderful sight and we are thankful no major damage occurred.
- There is absolutely no chance that I’ll get out of mowing the yard the rest of the summer now that the rainy season has begun. But the tomatoes, peppers and squash are really taking off in the garden now..as are the weeds.
- Finally, this week, take a little time out to do something nice for someone you care about. It doesn’t have to be anything fancy, but it’s the thought that will make all the difference.
See you next week...Remember, we're all in this together.
