School has started so let’s roll with some random thoughts…

I’m not sure what the governor has up his sleeve but he sure spends a ton of time walking around with the gas tax flag in his hand. I’m sure that the DOT needs money to repair the bridges and roads, and while I am not opposed to paying a couple of cents more at the pump, we are already seeing ignorantly high gas prices. I also have an issue if the money is going to go simply so we can build more four-lane highways and continue to ignore the bridges and back roads that are long overdue for repair.

The Dexter Fall Festival was a success despite the rain. Or perhaps because of the rain. Although everyone was soaked clear through by the time the parade started, I didn’t see one person who wasn’t glad the rain came.

My pick up skills are sorely lacking. I was introduced to someone over the weekend and honestly I am either a little too pushy or a little to shy around someone new that I like. I dropped the ball and didn’t get her phone number but she has mine. Ladies, I now know what horrible suffering you all have gone through waiting for the guy to call you. I apologize on behalf of all men.

Speaking of rain. My gauge showed an inch and a half by Sunday morning. Farther west, Adair had a little over two inches and Anita got three.

Just a gentle reminder that harvest is starting early this year. For those of you in the driving public that means be patient with the large equipment going down the road and the extra tired elevator crews on their way to and from work.

I was startled today at work when I saw a pair of trumpeter swans fly over the elevator. I’m used to seeing turkey buzzards, but these big white birds were really a sight to see.

I took one of the children to supper at the Machine Shed the other night and a funny thing happened. We had ordered and the waiter had brought us the bowl of coleslaw and cottage cheese to eat family style. The child across from me picked up the spoon out of the cottage cheese and remarked that it was a really big spoon before scooping some up and putting the whole thing in her mouth. There was a brief moment of recognition on her face when I explained that was why there was a small plate in front of her. Such a great memory.

I’m lazy when it comes to cleaning the fish tank. It is such a pain to haul Bert and Ernie out of the water and clean the tank and then fill every thing back up. Our solution you ask? A snail and we have named him Gary.

Finally this week, I am reminded just how impressive life is. From births to weddings to deaths, the circle of life has come to pass around me this week. Sometimes I think we miss just how wonderful each of these occasions can be. For in each one of them there is life, and we should marvel in it each chance we get.
See you next week….remember, we’re all in this together.
