It is always nice to have a birthday roll around and realize that you’ve lived a year longer than your parents said you were when you were little. In fact I not only made it past twelve but I’ve almost quadrupled it. As I like to do, I feel the need to look back at year 43 of my existence on this big blue marble and take stock in what I have learned.
So sit back and let’s take a trip through my year with “Things Weez learned this year”.
-
I’ve learned that pickled items…herring, beets, cauliflower…get more desirable the older I get.
-
I’ve learned that there is still no one who can sing like Johnny Cash.
-
I’ve learned that when you live alone the only way the dishes get washed is if you do it.
-
I’ve learned that even when you let things go, sometimes they don’t let you go.
-
I’ve learned that having a few close friends can really be better than having a million that you never talk to.
-
I’ve learned that God loves us, and shows us every time we eat bacon.
-
I’ve learned that I’m still not at the age that I can get away saying inappropriate things.
-
I’ve learned what De Colores means.
-
I’ve learned that when you have a son you only have to worry about one boy, but when you have a daughter you have to worry about ALL of the boys.
-
I’ve learned that it’s never too late to come to your senses and become conservative.
-
I’ve learned that I sleep better when I wash my bed sheets every week, weather they need it or not.
-
I’ve learned that staying up all night with a group of teenagers can make you feel young and old at the same time.
-
I’ve learned that lies can live forever.
-
I’ve learned that I’m too old.
-
I’ve learned that I don’t have to spend a million dollars to be a great Dad.
-
I’ve learned it is possible to have a job you love.
-
I’ve learned that nothing can heal a person like the grace of God.
-
And finally I’ve learned that I’m just me, and in the end I’m the only person who has to like me.
See you next week….remember, we’re all in this together.
