A few random thoughts this week...
1. What more can be said for those of us who have suffered through another year with the Cubs. Although it's been another bleak and heartbreaking post season...at least there is next year.
2. Speaking of heartbreaking...The Iowa State game on Saturday almost was the death of me. One of these days they'll knock someone off and then the world will begin to right itself. I think a great time to start would be the 18th against the Huskers...
3. You can always tell if it's Spring or Fall out in the country at night from the lights that sweep back and forth in the darkness. Looks like farmers have made good headway so far, although it looks like they'll get rained out this week. It's a good time for a gentle reminder to be sure to clean out the dust and accumulated goodies off of the combines while you have some down time. This could save you in the long run.
4. The kids and I spent an afternoon at Living History Farms this past weekend. We had a good time watching the corn harvest and the kids liked the Drug Store the best. It really is a neat place and one that we don't think about going to often enough.
5. I usually try to stay away from getting roped into helping serve food at church functions. But as always I'll be helping out Saturday night when the Dexter Methodists have their annual Chicken Noodle supper. And yes, those potatoes you are having were peeled by hand.
6. For those train buffs in the audience, Iowa Interstate has some brand spanking new locomotives in service. The new, fuel efficient, engines are now coming into service and are different than anything we have seen on the home rails here. Look for them and give the engineer a wave. These locomotives are numbered 500 through 510.
7. Finally this week. I've watched the Presidential debates, the Vice Presidential debates and am constantly reading news. I honestly believe that it really isn't going to make a difference who is in office when it comes to the economy. I think we are in for some bad times, and probably some really scary things. We'll make it through it, but it will be rough.
See you next week...remember, we're all in this together.
