A few random thoughts this week.
See you next week...remember, we're all in this together.
- The installation of the corn furnace is going along well this week. Not smooth mind you but enough to make me see the light of day. Hopefully by this time next week I'll be burning corn to heat my home this winter. I would burn cow chips at this point if it meant never paying the LP company another dime ever again.
- It's rough being a Cubs fan...and a Cyclone fan on top of that. Makes me almost wonder why I get out of bed some days.
- Less than a week to go until election day. Remember to cast your vote. It isn't about who you vote for so much as that you do go and vote. There are a lot of people in this world who don't get the right to vote, and a number of people across the generations who gave up their lives to give you that right. Honor them, by casting your vote every time you have the opportunity.
- Would the owner of the green plastic lawn chairs that blew into my yard from Panora on Sunday please come and collect them? What a wind that was! It created havoc with my dish all day. Have you ever tried to watch a movie when every other minute the screen goes blank for 20 seconds. Finally gave up and took a nap, which was probably the best thing for me anyway.
- I drove to Kansas City for business on Friday. It's been a while since I was down there and just a heads up they are starting to put in some new roads. I think I ended up in Kansas three times before I figured my way back into Missouri.
- There is a new book coming out about the "White Pole Road". Look for it when you are out shopping this winter. It's a neat little booklet of pictures and rememberences about the stretch from Dexter to Adair.
- It must have been a good year for pumpkins. That can only mean one thing.. Pie! I'm not much a fan of pumpkin pie, but if there is a coconut crème snuggled up next to it, I won't be shy.
- I was thinking the other day that I haven't mentioned the Melody Makers since I've been back in print. Still waiting on that CD to come on the market. And I bet you thought I had forgotten about you. See what happens when I don't work funerals any more?
- Remember to take it easy on the roads this week. Trick or Treaters will be out in full force and it gets dark early, so slow down and watch for little people.
- Which also brings me to a very happy place, the time which I remind my kids that Dad gets to inspect every ones candy bags before they eat anything. I usually try to do this away from the children. You would be surprised how much of their candy actually doesn't make it back into their sacks, but let's not tell them.
- Finally this week, just a short note to say thank you to all the people who have dropped a line, said hello when I've been out and about, or just picked up a copy of the paper and spent a little time here. It makes writing each week worthwhile.
See you next week...remember, we're all in this together.
