It’s been a week or two so how about a few random thoughts?
- With the horrible cold weather take a minute and realize how hard your furnaces have been working. If for nothing but piece of mind take a minute to check your smoke detectors. There is nothing worse than working a fire in these conditions, except if it’s a fire where the occupants weren’t warned.
- Did your folks ever tell you when you were little if you only ate one thing you would turn into it? I think my mom used it just to get us to eat our green beans but if it is true I should have a hot dog who is turning five at the end of the month.
- I got to talking the other day about the ice rink that was built behind the site of the Café in Dexter back in the 1950s and how hard it would be to make one today. The relatives from the north note that their town floods the sand volleyball court in the park for one, but I hear that in Michigan they quit making them because of the liability. Seems the minute someone falls down these days they think they are entitled to something.
- Speaking of entitlements…I’ve began to wonder where all the money that is going to pay for all the things the Iowa Legislature has passed the last couple of weeks will be coming from. And have you noticed that the DOT is asking them to add an additional tax to the price of gasoline?
- How I long for the site of tasseled corn reaching for the sky on a warm summers evening.
- Only 243 days till the start of the State Fair! Just in case you were keeping track or were getting hungry for a corn dog.
- How is everyone coming on their New Year’s resolutions? I gave up on December 31st.
- As I watched the Pelgas man pump money into my LP tank I lamented about the cost of heating the house. He reminded me that at least February was a short month. Gee..thanks…
- Finally this week, it’s been said before but still bears repeating... Just because you are older now does not mean that you are immune from sticking your tongue onto cold surfaces and having it stick. Don’t ask….please, just don’t ask.
See you next week…Remember, we’re all in this together.
